On 21 May 2025, the European project ELECTRA was featured in the opening session of the new Industrial Transition Series of webinars, organised by the IETS TCP – Industrial Energy-Related Technologies and Systems Technology Collaboration Programme, under the auspices of the International Energy Agency (IEA).

The session, titled “#1 Direct Electrification in Industry”, brought together industrial and academic experts to explore innovative solutions for decarbonising energy-intensive sectors through direct electrification.

Dr. Bodil Wilhelmsson, Senior Specialist at Heidelberg Materials and Adjunct Associate Professor at Umeå University, presented ELECTRA’s contribution to this transition. Her talk, “ELECTRA: Utilizing thermal plasma for the production of cement clinker”, showcased how the project is demonstrating that electric heating can replace fossil fuels in the cement, lime and pulp industries by developing and piloting high-temperature technologies powered by low-carbon electricity.

ELECTRA’s participation in this international webinar highlights its active role in advancing climate-neutral innovations and supporting the electrification of hard-to-abate industrial sectors in Europe.
